Feb. 8, 2013: Police are looking for a pair of crooks on the run after they robbed a cell phone store in southwest Houston on Thursday. Phil Archer reports.

HOUSTON -

Police are looking for a pair of crooks on the run after they robbed a cell phone store in southwest Houston on Thursday.

It happened at a cell phone store on Fondren Road near the Southwest Freeway.

Smartphones are commonly stolen by thieves because many of them know they can get as much as $90 a piece for every phone they sell on the street, which is what likely brought the pair to the store Thursday.

Investigators said once inside the store, the pair went over the counter and confronted the clerk, threatening to kill him and demanding cash.

Police said one of the crooks took whatever cash he could find in the register and then left everything else on the floor.

Later, while one of the crooks pushed the clerk into the backroom, officials said his partner stood lookout at the door. In the back of the store, police said the clerk was pistol whipped.

According to authorities, the robber then took the clerk's wallet and filled a bag with new cell phones. Police said the crooks were in and out in less than three minutes.

Officials said the clerk was taken to the hospital, checked for cuts and bruises, and was then released.

The robbers were careful to hide their faces. Police said they wore ski masks and gloves.

If you know anything about this case, you are asked to call Crime Stoppers at 713-222-TIPS (8477).
