March 28, 2013: For the second time in six months, firefighters are investigating a fire at a northeast Houston home. Gianna Caserta reports.

HOUSTON -

For the second time in six months, firefighters are investigating a fire at a northeast Houston home.

Independence Heights community activist John Branch owns the home on Castor Drive and East Whitney Street. He said his dogs woke him up around 11 p.m. Wednesday and alerted him to the fire.

While Branch tried to fight the flames with a garden hose, his wife called firefighters.

Branch said believes the fire started in his father's bedroom. He said his dad has dementia and may have been trying to dry something with a heater.

All six people living in the home and all of the animals made it outside to safety.

Branch had to be treated with oxygen after fighting the fire. He said he did not have insurance on the home.

Anyone who would like to make a donation to help the family rebuild may do so at any Chase Bank by referencing the Branch Fire Fund.
