Police are searching for two men who pistol-whipped a mechanic and pushed a woman to steal a pickup truck. Mark Boyle reports.

Two men stole a pickup truck from a woman and a mechanic in northeast Houston late Thursday, police said.

Houston police said the woman's pickup truck broke down and she took it to a shop in the 2700 block of Tidwell Road near Jensen Drive.

About 10 p.m., two men walked onto the property, pistol-whipped the mechanic, pushed the woman to the ground and stole the pickup truck, investigators said.

The mechanic's cellphone was inside the pickup truck, and police said they tracked the pickup truck through the "Find iPhone App" that was on that phone.

The app led officers to Autumn Lane and Weaver Road, where they said they found the white pickup riddled with bullets.

They were also able to pinpoint the iPhone, which had been thrown into a nearby field, police said.

K-9 units picked up the suspects scent on the phone and tracked it to a nearby apartment complex, but the robbers were not found.

Police said they believe the suspects may have gotten into another get away vehicle at the complex.
