The North Forest Independent School District will be annexed by the Houston Independent School District, said the Texas Education Agency.

In a statement, Edna Forté, the superintendent of North Forest ISD, said it would fight the decision. Forté said the district would request a review of its 2011-12 accountability and accreditation status that is based on its 2009-2010 financial rating and 2009-2010 high school completion rate.

"The Texas Education Agency is seeking to close the district for issues that occurred while under partial or complete censorship," she said.

In a statement, Houston ISD said it was ordered to annex district on July 1, 2012, and takeover North Forest's 7,500 students.

North Forest ISD has one high school, two middle schools, six elementary schools, a learning academy and prep school.

Houston ISD officials said it planned on working with North Forest leaders towards a smooth transition.

“While HISD did not seek this annexation, we stand ready to welcome the entire North Forest community into the HISD family," said HISD Board President Paula Harris.

HISD is the largest school district in Texas and the seventh largest in the United States.
