March 19, 2013: A collision in northeast Harris County claims the life of a 10-year-old boy, according to investigators. Courtney Gilmore reports.

A 10-year-old boy died after he was thrown out of a vehicle during a collision in northeast Harris County, investigators said.

Harris County sheriff's deputies said a 46-year-old woman driving a Pontiac ran a red light at the intersection of Uvalde and Highway 90 about 10:20 a.m. on Tuesday and hit a Scion. The Pontiac spun around and hit a traffic light pole.

The woman's 10-year-old son, Carmelo Cornejo, who was not wearing a seat belt, was ejected from the car, detectives said. He died at the scene.

The driver of the Pontiac was flown to Memorial Hermann Hospital in critical condition. She is expected to survive.

The mother was taking her son to a doctor when the wreck happened, detectives said.

A 32-year-old woman and a 3-year-old child were inside the Scion. They were taken to Lyndon B. Johnson Hospital and are expected to be OK. The 3-year-old was in a car seat at the time of the collision.

The Harris County District Attorney's Office will determine if charges will be filed.
