Jan. 9, 2013: The Magnolia Independent School District says a student took a gun to school on Tuesday. Ryan Korsgard reports.

A Magnolia elementary school student took an unloaded gun to school, officials said Wednesday.

The district said MISD administration received information Tuesday afternoon that claimed an elementary student was in possession of a weapon on the Lyon Elementary campus. School staff said they quickly recovered an unloaded firearm without incident. No ammunition was found in the student’s possession, nor was there any evidence of an intent to use the weapon on campus.

MISD informed Lyon Elementary parents of the incident Wednesday afternoon by phone message. A thorough investigation was completed by MISD administration in cooperation with Precinct 5 of the Montgomery County Constable’s Office, officials said.

MISD said they are committed to providing a safe environment for all students, and will continue to work with parents and law enforcement to achieve this goal.

"I'm worried about my kid's safety," said Kenneth Langley.

Langley said two of his children used to attend Lyon Elementary.

"I got two special needs kids that go to the junior high," said Langley. "One goes to junior high, and one goes to Bear Branch. Anybody can grab the gun and it can go off and innocent bystanders could get killed."
