On what should be one of the safest parts of her day, a 15-year-old Reagan High School student was abducted and brutally assaulted on her way to school, according to authorities.
Police said the teenager had just left a nearby grocery store on her way to school around 8:30 a.m. on November 20th.
That's when a car pulled up and an adult female jumped out and pushed the victim into the back seat of the car, police said. The teen said she was driven to an unknown location, where a male in the car sexually assaulted her, police said.
Authorities said pair then drove the girl back near the school and dropped her off.
Parents and neighbors in the area said they hadn't heard about the attack and were shocked and saddened for the girl.
"For something like that to happen in broad daylight in the morning time... I don't know. [It's] pretty sad actually," said Mark Ramirez.
Linda Mares said news of the assault will influence where her granddaughter is allowed to go on her own in the family's neighborhood in The Heights.
"She walks over there sometimes, but now that I'm aware of this, she's not going to be walking over there anymore. I'll be picking her up," said Mares.
