Two new human cases of West Nile have been confirmed in Fort Bend County. One of those cases is in Sugar Land.
A spokesperson for the city of Sugar Land said it recently increased mosquito spraying and is working closely with the Texas Department of State Health Services to trap and test mosquitoes.
The traps are in addition to the city's continued weekly mosquito spraying operations that take place every Friday evening.
Additional spraying will be scheduled if necessary.
"It's very scary to hear there is a case nearby," said Dawn Bobbitt, a Fort Bend County resident. "What we've done recently is, we used to love sitting outside in our neighborhood, but we've stopped doing that. We're more cautious now."
There have been 29 deaths across Texas from west Nile virus this year, with three of the cases in the Houston area.
