HOUSTON -

A driver who led deputy constables on a chase has been arrested.

Harris County Precinct 7 deputy constables said Houston police tried to stop the driver on Bellfort near Nunn in southeast Houston.

A passenger in the car jumped out and ran on foot and the driver took off, investigators said.

Deputy constables chased the driver along the Beltway and the driver stopped near Harwin. Detectives said a Harris County Precinct 5 deputy constable threw out spike strips, which destroyed one of the car's tires.

After the driver was arrested, he told detectives that he was trying to drive to Dallas.

The car had been reported stolen, police said. Stolen radios and a small amount of marijuana was found inside the car, detectives said.
