Detectives have identified a man who was shot to death by an officer after he put a knife to a 1-year-old's throat.
Houston police said a woman called for help about 6 p.m. Wednesday, saying her husband was threatening a woman and a 1-year-old boy in a unit at the Woodchase Apartments in the 2900 block of South Gessner.
The woman somehow got the wife's phone number and sent her text messages about the incident, officials said.
When officer's arrived at the apartment, they heard a woman scream and forced their way inside, investigators said.
Officers said they saw the husband, 34-year-old Kenny Detrellas Montgomery, holding the baby in his arms and continually putting a 7-inch butcher's knife to the boy's throat.
Detectives said Montgomery ran into a bathroom and tried to shut the door. Officer J. Fisher then opened fire, killing Montgomery, investigators said.
The baby was not hurt.
