HOSUTON -

The search is on for a man state troopers are calling one of the most wanted sex offenders in Texas.

Officials with the Texas Department of Public Safety said John Enard, 58, managed to take off his ankle monitor early Saturday morning. He then climbed a fence at the Southeast Texas Transitional Treatment Center in the 10900 block of Beaumont Highway in east Houston and escaped, officials said.

DPS officials said Enard was added to the Texas 10 most wanted sex offender list.

Enard was adjudicated as a sexually violent predator and paroled to the transitional center back in December of 2012, officials said.

Enard has a lengthy criminal history. In 1982, officials said Enard was convicted of burglary with intent to rape. He was sentenced to ten years in prison for that case.

Officials said Enard was serving a 75-year sentence since 1986 for aggravated kidnapping and aggravated sexual assault when he was paroled from the Texas Department of Criminal Justice.

Enard has made comments in the past that he will rape again, officials said. He's said to have family in Houston and Lafayette, Louisiana.

Crime Stoppers is offering a reward of up to $3,000 for information leading to his arrest. If you have any information, give them a call at 1-800-252-TIPS (8477). All tipsters can remain anonymous.
