Co-workers save fellow PISD worker
A maintenance worker at a Pasadena middle school is alive thanks to the quick response from his co-workers.
The man collapsed and was unconscious while he was working on the air conditioner at Thompson Intermediate School.
Officials said that's when a team of employees sprang into action. They're part of the school's emergency response team. They grabbed a defibrillator, shocked the worker and performed CPR until paramedics arrived.
The entire district, and especially Toni Lopez, the principal at Thompson Intermediate, are celebrating their heroic action.
"They responded exactly how they were trained to respond," said Lopez. I'm thankful for our school board that had the foresight to purchase these for every single campus. Because this came out to be a situation where it was worth every penny."
The school board approved the purchase of defibrillators in 2011 for every single campus in the Pasadena School District at a cost of $70,000.
