Jan. 10, 2013: Two thieves are on the loose after they break into a southwest Houston convenience store to steal cigarettes, police say. Andy Cerota reports.

Surveillance cameras were rolling when two masked men broke into a southwest Houston convenience store early Thursday morning.

It happened at a store in the 1200 block of Bissonnet near Cook Road.

Houston police said one of the crooks acted as a lookout while the other pried open the security gate covering the front doors.

The two crooks wore black coats and masks, and surveillance cameras caught images of them dashing into the store. They didn't let thick, glass walls prevent them from getting to their target. One of them climbed up on the counter punched out ceiling tiles. He then went up into the ceiling and came out inside the office.

The crook was seen letting his accomplice in through the security door. They both frantically cleaned out the shelves, tossing all the cigarette cartons into the trashcan they brought in with them. Once they were done, the video showed them running out of the store and darting back across the parking lot with their trashcan full of stolen cigarettes.

Police searched the area, but the crooks were nowhere to be found.

Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 713-222-TIPS.
