Jan. 6, 2013: Investigators said a major overnight blaze at a west Houston apartment complex is suspicious and its now been turned over to the hands of arson investigators. Courtney Zavala reports.

HOUSTON -

Investigators are calling a major overnight blaze at a west Houston apartment complex suspicious, and it's been turned over to arson investigators.

Houston firefighters were called out to Sheffield Square apartments on Perthshire near Thicker lane around 2 a.m. Sunday. Several residents called 911 to report the fire.

"They arrived within four minutes. They reported heavy fire from one end of an apartment building," said Captain Jay Evans with the Houston Fire Department.

Towards the middle of the complex, firefighters located the fire involving four units. Fire crews were actually called out to the same complex just hours earlier.

"Around 11:30 (p.m.), one of the companies was dispatched over here for a phone book that had been on fire in that same stairwell," said Captain Evans.

HFD has told Local 2 that residents did not hear any alarms from smoke detectors. Investigators said they will be looking into that as well.

HFD said the units damaged in the fire are a total loss. No injuries were reported.
