One person was shot during a home invasion at a north Houston apartment complex Wednesday.
Houston police said three men were walking from the parking lot to their unit in the Concord apartments at 301 Little York at 12:30 a.m. when five suspects jumped out of a SUV and forced them inside.
Three females were also inside the apartment.
Officials said the suspects pistol-whipped and held the six victims at gunpoint while they robbed them of about $300. When the robbers started to leave, the three male victims tried to go after them and the suspects opened fire, investigators said.
One of the victims, Felipe Juarez, 34,, was shot in the chest and stomach. He was taken to Ben Taub Hospital in critical condition. His name was not released.
Apartment residents said a dozen gunshots were fired during the crime. One bullet went through a neighboring apartment, officials said, and pierced a girl's wall and door. She was not injured.
"It scared the devil out of me," said Ken Jackson, the girl's father. "We heard a couple more shots and I said 'get down.'"
The robbers escaped in a black Chevrolet Tahoe or Ford Expedition. Police said they were looking at surveillance video taken at the complex to see if they can get the vehicle's license plate number.
Police do not believe the victims knew the robbers.
