MISSOURI CITY, Texas -

A family fishing trip turned deadly when a kayak overturned in the frigid waters of a Missouri City lake.

Police said the incident happened around 4 p.m. Friday on a body of water at Lexington Park near Lexington and Murphy Road.

Officials said Steven Bouton, 50, and his teenaged stepdaughter were out on a kayak fishing when their boat overturned. Missouri City firefighters and police officers rushed to the scene and managed to rescue both from the water.

Arson investigator Jared Defoor, and police officer Pete Alvarado both swam out to the overturned kayak and pulled Bouton to shore. Firefighters then administered CPR, officials said. A paramedic, Sean Wenglar, managed to pull the stepdaughter back to shore.

Bouton died on Saturday at the hospital. His stepdaughter survived.
