Houstonians rave about the po-boys at a local Cajun restaurant, but this week health inspectors are ranting about the roaches.
We're putting BB's Cafe at 2710 Montrose near Richmond on probation in this week's Restaurant Report Card. Just last year, it earned an A+ for a spotless inspection. But this time around inspectors noted cockroaches in a paper towel holder, above the kitchen sink and in and around an electrical outlet.
"Your most recent inspection was awful. What happened?" Local 2 Consumer Expert Amy Davis asked BB's Cafe manager Ceida Rodriguez.
"I'm assuming that's because the building's old and summer's coming up," answered Rodriguez. "And we are totally cleaning under everything and getting this problem solved. We are."
Rodriguez said that exterminators are on the case.
"We're taking all preventative measures to take care of this," she said. "We really are. We love our food and we love our guests."
There were more roaches at Texas Pizza at 16452 Sea Lark and the Otto's BBQ inside Chase Tower at 600 Travis.
You don't necessarily expect fine dining at any hospital, but you'd think the food would be safe. Instead inspectors found no hot water at LBJ Hospital on Kelley.
At California Pizza Kitchen on Post Oak near The Galleria inspectors condemned chicken that was off temperature and not safe for human consumption. There was also no hot water for kitchen employees to properly clean their hands.
At Cafe Ginger in River Oaks on West Gray there was no soap or hand towels at the sink, a dirty can opener and a package of raw meat on the floor of the walk-in freezer.
Our A+'s this week go to Five Guys Burgers and Fries at 3939 Washington Avenue and Baskin-Robbins at 14460 Hillcroft Avenue. Great job to both restaurants for keeping it clean.
