Halloween is all about scary tricks and grossing people out, and our Restaurant Report Card is continuing with the theme of the day.
What health inspectors found at the China Star Chinese Buffet at 4414 North Freeway at Crosstimbers seemed like a mean trick. There were roaches crawling on the floor and in and around a freezer storing beef and ice cream. Inspectors closed the place down until the owner had it exterminated.
There was one roach in a cabinet in the sushi area of the Nori Japanese Restaurant in Town and Country Village. Just one block up, still at Town & Country, inspectors found employees keeping the pizza spatulas on the floor at The Tasting Room. They say there was also pink slime in the ice machine. The slime was black and it was "hanging" inside the ice machine at the Subway at 538 Waugh Drive. At the Old Hickory Inn at 5427 South Braeswood inspectors told owners to minimize the presence of roaches.
Now for the treats: There was nothing but good stuff from the Subway on the North Freeway at Parker and Jack in the Box at 251 Greens Road. Both restaurants get A's this week for spotless inspections.
