Freebie Friday: Memorial Day weekend free stuff

May 23, 2014: If you aren't traveling, there are plenty of activities around town for Memorial Day weekend. Amy Davis reports.

HOUSTON -

Make sure you say thanks to a soldier, active or retired, this weekend. But you don't have to be a veteran to get in on any of these freebies.

How about dancing' in the street or at the Miller Outdoor Theater? You can catch a free performance of Dancin' in the Street: Motown & More Revue. This year's show pays tribute to the Jackson 5 and a special performance honoring 50th anniversary of Sam Cooke's "A Change is Gonna Come". Free covered seat tickets are available at 10:30 a.m. on performance day while they last. Four per person. Shows are Friday, Saturday and Sunday at 8:15 p.m..

There'll be Magic in the Plaza at Sugar Land Town Square Saturday at 7 p.m. The magic show, dance contests and activities are all free.

Saturday is Customer Appreciation Day at the Bobby Westfall Driving Range in Tomball. From 10 a.m. until 6pm you can get free food and drinks and free analysis of your golf, grip, stance and swing by PGA Pro Bobby Westfall. The range is at 10826 FM 2920.

Celebrate our veterans Saturday and Sunday at Town Green Park in The Woodlands beginning at 6pm with live music and activities for the kids. Fireworks start at 9pm both nights.

Find out whose got the best chili in Tomball at the Memorial Day Chili Challenge from 10 a.m.-5 p.m. in downtown Tomball. There will be live music and pro-cookers from all over Texas whipping up chili.

Don't miss the Memorial Day Lantern Launch at Towne Lake near 290 and Barker Cypress. Community members write messages on paper lanterns to honor veterans and then release the lanterns on the lake at sunset.
