FLAMART (Featuring Latin American Music and ARTS) was founded in 2005 to present Houstonians with programs that explore the richness and diversity found in Latin American and Spanish art.

HOUSTON -

Founded in 2005 with the goal of presenting Latin American and Iberian art forms, FLAMART (Featuring Latin American Music and ARTS) has been a consistent force in bringing Houstonians programs that explore the richness and diversity found in native peoples of the American continent, European traditions, and the vibrant and complex African rhythms and dances that when fused together create what we know and see today as Latin American and Spanish art.

This 501©(3) status organization, in cooperation with the Foundation of Modern Music, continues its goal of becoming one of Houston’s most important and influential Latino art organizations, producing innovative programs and concepts.

One such program is Salsa y Salud, a city-wide celebration of healthy living through dance.    Conceived by Congressional Award and Jefferson Award recipient Raul Orlando Edwards, Salsa y Salud continues its mission of using artistic expressions such as salsa to help educate communities and individuals young and old on the importance of having active and healthy lifestyles.

The Salsa y Salud program features a free health education lecture series bringing together experts in the medical, health and wellness and physical fitness fields together to present interactive and entertaining events where participants get practical and valuable information in a relaxed lecture/dance movement format.

The other side of Salsa y Salud is The Show!, A live performance with over 40 performers, including the Houston All Stars Salsa Orchestra and guests, Strictly Street Salsa dancers, and celebrity emcees.  This FREE event will be take place Saturday, September 22 at 7:30PM at Miller Outdoor Theatre.
