Varicose veins are most commonly experienced by aging or pregnant women. Although they are a result of poor blood circulation Health911 says certain foods may help prevent varicose veins from collapsing.

Vitamin C is said to protect and help maintain vein health. Foods that are high in vitamin C include: grapefruit, oranges, broccoli and red bell peppers.

Health911 says it is important to eat foods with an anti-inflammatory effect since inflammation in the body is one of the leading causes for swollen veins. Green and black tea help reduce inflammation of the body. Drinking lots of water and eating foods high in fiber helps reduce constipation and overall pressure in the body.
