Importance of a good bed

Every night on a ‘school night’ (i.e., Sunday through Thursday), I try to make it to bed by 9:30 p.m. At the latest 10:30 p.m., because I’m typically up early in the mornings at 5:00 a.m. in order to begin working with my first client.

I discovered the benefits of a great bed when I started spending two weeks each summer camping in a tent in South Dakota. After my initiation year of enduring two weeks with an air mattress that loved to deflate completely around 2:00 a.m. each morning (meaning I found myself frozen and on the cold ground), and the consequences of the wrath of the next day because of the lack of sleep, I made it my mission to make my two-week tenting experience as luxurious (sleep-wise) as I possibly could.

I tested and tested to come up with the best accommodations.

Roll-out pads, higher-quality air mattresses (that were pricier), and futon pads were subjected to my rigorous testing. Nothing felt quite right until I found Cabela’s Deluxe Camp Bed. It was the closest thing that I could find to my yummy Tempurpedic mattress at home. I was looking for that ‘home away from home’ camping experience, I suppose.

(On the topic of the Tempurpedic: That memory foam is just magical. Once I made the purchase of the Tempurpedic mattress, I noticed that I started sleeping through the night, which seemed like a far-fetched dream to me before.)

The Cabela’s Camp Bed was a close second to my beloved Tempurpedic. I couldn’t believe my luck.

I’m sure I don’t have to tell you what a difference a full night of sleep makes compared to a bad one.

I know in my case, it’s not good for me or anyone who I come in contact with if I don’t get good, quality sleep. Beyond averting disastrous encounters with other humans, sleep serves as the foundation of so many beneficial things for your health, including:

  • Maintaining healthy weight
  • Stress management
  • Healthy blood pressure
  • Healthy blood sugar levels
  • Healthy heart (by the way, did you know that heart attack risk spikes significantly right after daylight savings time? Hmmm…)
  • Healthy back and neck

And these are just to name a few.

The list is extensive and contains nothing that isn’t of importance. So if you’re ‘sleeping’ on a big decision on whether or not to invest in a good bed, then you should think twice. A good bed (and sleep) can literally be a life saver.
