Nov. 8, 2011: A group sent out a controversial email urging Houstonians to vote gays and lesbians, and those who support them, out of office. Mark Boyle reports.

HOUSTON -

A controversial email urged Houstonians to vote gays and lesbians, and those who support them, out of office when they head to the polls Tuesday.

The email was sent by a group called Godfather Politics and titled, "Homosexuals Battle For Control Of Houston."

The email tries to appeal to parents with children. A paragraph states, "Young people are influenced by these very visible role models. They will think it's OK to experiment sexually. The mayor is a homosexual."

"It's just people out there trying to denigrate our community because they can," said Noel Freeman, the president of Houston's GLBT Caucus. "It's completely ridiculous that these folks think Houston voters are so stupid as to believe this. I think it's shameful that they think this is the kind of rhetoric that can win an election and influence public opinions."

The email also lists all of the candidates supported by the gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender community.
